On Monday, 11th November, Creative Kernow Associates and Screen Cornwall launched the Immersive Innovation Programme with an exciting first workshop at the state-of-the-art Market Hall in Plymouth, hosted by programme partner Real Immersive.
The day provided a fantastic opportunity for the cohort to connect, share their diverse project ideas, and set the stage for a year of innovation, collaboration, and exploration. It was inspiring to hear about the varied approaches participants are bringing to the programme, and we can’t wait to see these ideas evolve.
A highlight of the day was a guest talk by immersive technology expert Catherine Allen, who shared valuable insights on innovating responsibly in the immersive/creative tech space, addressing both societal and environmental considerations.
Participants also explored Real Immersive’s world-class facilities, including the 15m immersive dome, equipped with a 19.1 speaker system and 360-degree visuals. The immersive dome at Market Hall is a prime example of the growing trend in immersive entertainment spaces worldwide. These facilities are pushing the boundaries of audience engagement by creating environments that completely surround viewers in sound and visuals. With applications ranging from artistic showcases and educational content to live performances and commercial events, the immersive entertainment market is rapidly expanding. Facilities like the Market Hall dome contribute to this thriving sector by offering spaces where creators can experiment and develop groundbreaking content. Globally, iconic spaces like the Las Vegas Sphere highlight the potential of this technology. It was incredibly beneficial for the cohort to experience and learn about the world-class tools Market Hall has to offer, serving as an incubator for innovation, and making Plymouth a key player in the immersive entertainment revolution. We are excited to see how some of the participants will engage with this space and support offered by Real Immersive.
The first workshop set an exciting tone for what promises to be an incredible journey, and we are pleased to hear the participants found the session ‘insightful and inspiring’. Stay tuned for updates as the programme unfolds!
