Three early career artists have been selected to help deliver Creative Kernow's Arts Lab programme.
This paid development opportunity is for three emerging artists based in Cornwall who are looking to gain experience of delivering participatory arts projects. Working closely with an established artist, the selected artists will help deliver creative sessions for young refugees and their peers aged 10 to 18 across Cornwall.
We are delighted to announce the selected artists are:
Caitlyn Diment
Caitlyn is a Theatre maker, Facilitator and Performer based in Penryn. She graduated from Falmouth University in 2024 and formed her Theatre Company, Oranges for Sharing, with three other ex-coursemates. They make predominantly devised work which engages the local community, whilst also running workshops across local Primary and Secondary Schools.
Caitlyn also works as part of Hall for Cornwall’s Get Creative Team. This term she is directing a Christmas show for one of the Youth Groups. In both her teaching and making Caitlyn embodies a total theatre approach, using lots of different forms and techniques to make work as both intriguing and engaging as possible. Some favourite forms being Physical Theatre and the use of Absurdism to escape the everyday! Caitlyn enjoys watching lots of different types of theatre and has a real love for comedy.
Izzy Eastick
Izzy’s work explores the feelings and questions that come with being exposed to vast, more than human experiences – fossils that speak to a deep and otherworldly time, bones that consider lives and interactions that we cannot know, feathers that mark a fragile and fleeting moment of life. She enjoys the ability that these objects possess to shock us out of our habitual everyday and remind us of our place as humans – miniscule, temporary, curious, impactful, immense, and deeply, certainly, not alone. In exploring these themes, Izzy draws parallels with, and begins to explore, her own feelings and encounters, particularly surrounding her experiences with chronic illness and neurodivergence.
The works she make are often delicate and detailed. Although typically small in size, she enjoys playing with space and composition, as well as exploring different thicknesses and textures of papers, and different ways of incorporating objects alongside her drawings and paintings.
Katie Platts
Katie is an artist creating events, experiences and environments, often collaborating with other artists, musicians and performers.
Within these installations she creates many visual elements including sculptures, film works and projections, handmade books, printmaking and photography.
At the core of her work is an interest in processes of change and transformation and using these as a lens to think differently about our current realities. She explores scientific ideas, geological processes, mythology and magick, psychology, alchemy and herbalism. These ideas come together in speculative fictional narratives and alternative histories that are woven through her work.
Alongside this she also creates jewellery and wearable art works, primarily using the ancient craft of enamelling and metalwork.
