Merging: Forming: Realigned

Sapphire Blue Collective

June 23, 2026

MERGING : FORMING : REALIGNED showcases work by four members of Sapphire Blue Collective (SBC), a group of multi-disciplinary visual artists whose work spans drawing, painting, fine print, textiles, photography, ceramics, installation and assemblage.

Since forming in 2022, the group has gained recognition across Devon, and Cornwall for a series of thought-provoking and critically engaged exhibitions at venues including Maketank (Exeter), Leadworks (Plymouth) and Krowji (Redruth).

Returning for a second year to the gallery space at Birdwood House in Totnes, both the artists’ individual practices and their collaborative methodology are shaped by a manifesto centred on compassion, kinship, equity and tenacity. The group self-organise, produce and co-curate all their own exhibitions through a model of co-working which favours a DIY ethos as a means of navigating the gatekeeping structures that characterise large sections of the contemporary art establishment.

The title MERGING : FORMING : REALIGNED operates both as a reflection of processes of material and conceptual development, and as a broader reference to the Collective’s evolving configuration. It speaks to the shifting dynamics of the group as members renegotiate their relationships to place, practice and one another through things like geographic relocation, recalibrating priorities or taking on new professional roles.

PARTICIPATING ARTISTS:

Poppy Goldsmith, Leah Jordan,  Christina (Tina) Kutter and Polly Plouviez
