We are inviting ideas from creative and cultural practitioners and organisations across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly to host activity and experience-led social events between November 2025 and March 2026 as part of our series Creative Kernow Associates (CKA) mixer events.
Deadline: Monday 1st September 2025, 9am
About CKA Mixers
CKA mixer events are playful and informal happenings. They provide a space for participants to get to know one another, as well as an opportunity for hosts to share their work and skills.
You can see examples of previous mixer events here:
- Eco-Photography and RISO Printing for Playful Collaboration with Josie Purcell
- Slipware Tiles – Playing with Clay Surface with Clay Trap
- Walk, Talk, Draw / Kerdh, Keskows, Delin – Bronze Age Bodmin Moor / Goon Brenn with Robin Paris
- Motion Capture Networking with Swashbuckling Cornwall
- Corn Dollies with Susanna Webster
- Creative Possibilities of Clay with Jacqueline Clark
- Small Acts of Walking (and Talking) with Small Acts
- Cut, Craft, Connect with Poppy Wonnacott
- Mirror Deflections in Sculpture and Photography with Abigail Reynolds
- Digging Deep with The Workshed
Selection Criteria
We are looking to fund events which are:
- Creative! We want these to be engaging sessions for people to attend – a chance to have fun, whether that’s learning a new skill or doing something they’ve done 100 times before.
- Social ???? These sessions should be a way for people to get to know one another, whether that’s getting to know someone for the first time or discussing something new with an old friend.
- Inclusive. We encourage you to consider the accessibility of your event and make it as inclusive as possible. This is not just in terms of visible disabilities, but also neurodiversity, transport access and other factors that may deter or compromise someone’s participation.
We are looking to fund a geographical spread of events, as well as a variety of creative disciplines. We appreciate this is a difficult factor to control so we do keep a reserve list of events which we want to run but were too similar to another event submitted at the same time.
Practical Information
- A budget of £250 is available for each event; this includes the fee for the host, material costs and venue (if required). Please bear this in mind when planning your idea.
- The event does not need to have been designed especially for this open call – you can submit a session you have run before so long as it fits with our criteria.
- If you design an event especially, the intellectual property remains with you; you are more than welcome (even encouraged!) to run this event again outside of CKA if it would be beneficial to you/others.
- The event can be hosted in your own space or a hired venue.
- The activity/experience should not last for more than two hours.
- The capacity for your event must be at least 10.
- Your event should be open to creative and cultural practitioners from any discipline – no prior knowledge should be required to attend.
- We will manage the marketing and ticketing for every event.
- You can host one CKA mixer event per year.
- You need to be a CKA member to apply to this opportunity.
- We are looking to fund four events in total throughout the five months.
