Creative Kernow Associates (CKA) and artist A. Todd are delighted to be partnering to offer an exciting residency opportunity at The Old Schoolhouse, Krowji, Redruth. This residency provides an emerging artist with three weeks of dedicated studio space within a unique and characterful creative environment.

About the Residency
Artist A. Todd is offering the front project space within The Old Schoolhouse as part of his ongoing A Fraction of Forever project.
Located at Krowji in Redruth, The Old Schoolhouse occupies the lower half of the historic building beneath Bill’s Attic. While part of the building functions as Todd’s own studio, the larger front space is being developed as an experimental exhibition and project space, recently hosting the group exhibition Ghosts Of All We’ve Ever Been and an afternoon event with Hettie Judah.
Todd says:
“I really appreciate what space can do for an artist, and I know that not everyone has the opportunity to work within a setting like this. I’ll be away for three weeks in August and would love to offer the space to someone who could benefit from it – an artist who is challenging themselves and looking to push their practice in new directions.
There is no charge. You’ll have access to the large front space to work in, and you’re also welcome to spend time in my studio and even respond to the work I’m making there.”
The selected artist will have the opportunity to develop work independently while engaging with the wider context of Todd’s practice. The residency is intended as a space for experimentation, reflection and testing new ideas, rather than the production of finished outcomes.
As part of the A Fraction of Forever project, priority will be given to artists whose work embraces experimentation, risk-taking and the testing of boundaries, reflecting the ethos of the work being developed and presented at The Old Schoolhouse.
Residency Details
Residency period: Monday 3rd August to Sunday 23rd August 2026
The residency includes:
- Exclusive use of the front project space at The Old Schoolhouse.
- Access to A. Todd’s studio environment during the residency.
- An opportunity to engage with and respond to Todd’s practice.
- A handover and induction on Friday 31st July with A. Todd and CK Operations Manager Emma Wood.
There is no charge to participate in the residency, and you do not need to be a member of CKA to apply. However, if selected, you are required to be a member for the duration of the residency. Membership starts from £5/month.
This residency is designed to support experimentation, curiosity and the development of new ideas, so there is no expectation of a finished outcome or exhibition. We would, however, appreciate some documentation or reflection on the residency to help share the experience with our community. This might be through photographs, a short written reflection, social media posts, an informal open studio, or another format that best suits your practice.
Who Can Apply?
This opportunity is aimed at emerging artists based in Cornwall who are looking to challenge and develop their practice through a period of focused experimentation.
Applications are welcome from artists working in any medium whose practice demonstrates curiosity, ambition and a willingness to test new ideas.
Applicants do not need to be members of CKA to apply. However, if selected, you are required to be a member for the duration of the residency. Membership starts from £5/month.
Selection
Applications will be assessed by A. Todd and Emma Wood (CK Operations Manager).
Priority will be given to proposals that demonstrate a commitment to experimentation, creative risk-taking and a clear intention to use the residency to develop or challenge existing practice.
We aim to inform all applicants of the outcome of the decision by Monday 27th July.
All creative disciplines are welcome (within Krowji Tenant H&S Rules & Regulations 2022).

- Examples of your current work (images and/or relevant supporting material – max 10 images or 5 mins of video/audio).
- A brief outline describing what you hope to explore or achieve during the residency (max 150 words).
