The Inside of a Closed Box, 24 Times

CMR Project Space

November 22, 2025

Felix Jupiter McClafferty presents a curated selection of works at CMR Project Space, centred on The Inside of a Closed Box, 24 Times — an installation exploring physical and cultural decay. Using the illusion of a 3D zoetrope, McClafferty animates the destructive phenomenon of generation loss, as monolithic, coral-like sculptures cycle through erosion beneath a stark 10hz strobe light. The work draws viewers into a pulsating, breath-like disintegration where decay and renewal intertwine.

The version shown at CMR introduces a live sonic performance using contact microphones attached to the strobe, turntable, and drum-like pillar supporting the piece. These sounds are manipulated in real time — warped, sampled, and re-EQ’d — transforming the installation into an instrument and translating visual decay into resonant noise.

Felix Jupiter McClafferty (b. 2000, he/they) is a multidisciplinary artist working across research, music, performance, writing, and new media. Informed by hauntology, ecology, and media archaeology, McClafferty’s practice drifts through the tidal pools of the contemporary landscape, tracing the ghosts that surface from the murk and loop their way into the future.

Opening night on Friday 28th November, 6–9pm
The exhibition continues Saturday 29th & Sunday 30th November, 12–5pm
