This small exhibition illustrates what I know so far about my maternal great grandfather. Unearthing his story with wide ranging research coincided with and informed my reviving art practice leading to this visual telling of his story. The exhibition commemorates the 120th anniversary of the mining disaster that took his life.

My images seek to capture the emotions, pride and poignancy of this mining heritage rather than to directly replicate historic photos and realistic scenes. To bring texture and a raw, earthy ruggedness into pieces to tell a story, I use multiple layers with different techniques and media including local natural earth pigments and powders.
