Cove Park Residency 2025 Open Call

We are working with international artists residency centre Cove Park (covepark.org) to offer a two-week residency opportunity on Scotland’s west coast, for a Cornwall-based creative working in writing, visual arts practice, sound, music, performance and theatre making, design, craft, or architecture.

About Cove Park

Cove Park is an international residency centre with a unique programme of residencies, commissions and collaborative projects.

Since 2000, the site has hosted over 1,500 artists working across a wide range of contemporary art forms and from all career stages, with former residents including Margaret Atwood, Beca Lipscombe, Elizabeth Price, Charlotte Prodger, Simon Starling, Christos Tsiolkas, Jan Verwoert and Louise Welsh.

Cove Park residencies are regularly developed in partnership with leading national and international companies, art schools, and organisations such as Australia’s National Writers’ House, BBC Scotland, Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, the Gaelic Books Council, and Fluxus Art Projects.

Cove Park also co-leads, with Saari Residence (Finland), the Nordic Alliance of Artists’ Residencies on Climate Action.

What does this offer?

The selected artist will spend two weeks (10th – 23rd March 2025) living and working in private, self-catering accommodation in Cove Park’s 50-acre site, which provides:

  • Private accommodation suitable for individuals, those working in collaboration or attending with children. Cove Park’s residencies are self-catering, and each unit has its own kitchen.
  • One accessible accommodation unit, with adjoining studio. Please let us know at the point of application, if this would be preferable for you.
  • Private studios
  • Work and meeting spaces within the Jacobs Building, a communal space which also houses the library, an open-plan kitchen and dining area.
  • Cove Park has a limited supply of basic tools and equipment and a 60-litre kiln (residents should bring their own specialised equipment or materials)

There is no anticipated outcome of the residency other than delivering a talk upon your return to Cornwall sharing your experience of the residency.

This residency is funded by Creative Kernow which will provide £1000 to go towards travel, living and material costs, as well as a £150 fee for the experience sharing talk after the residency.

Who Is This For?

All artists, writers, performers, makers and designers working in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly are welcome to apply. Artists of any discipline are welcome in Cove Park’s studios; previous residents have created every conceivable genre of writing, visual arts practice, sound, music, performance and theatre making, plus design, craft, and architecture while working at the site.

This opportunity is for Creative Kernow Associates exclusively. Although you don’t need to be a member of Creative Kernow Associates to apply, you will be required to join the membership if you are selected. The membership fee starts from £5/month.

Selection

The Residency Artist will be selected based on:

  • The creative strength of their work and ideas
  • Their need for a period of research and creative development
  • Their interest in working within a community of artists.

These are criteria for all Cove Park residents.

The selection panel are:

  • Alexia Holt, Director, Cove Park
  • Tonia Lu, Flamm Director, Creative Kernow
  • A former Cove Park resident (TBC)

Practical Information

Besides the CKA membership fee, which brings other benefits, the selected artist is not required to pay to take part in this residency.

The artist will be responsible for arranging their own travel to and from Cove Park. Creative Kernow Associates will provide £1000 to go towards travel, living and material costs, as well as a £150 fee for the experience sharing talk after the residency.
