The Back to the Market Commissions in Barnstaple Pannier Market opens Saturday 14th November, with a performance led by Jessica Akerman at 3pm and Soapbox Karaoke led by Graham Taylor from 4pm.
These three commissions explore specific events in the history of the Pannier Market: Oswald Mosley’s talk at the Pannier Market in 1934, Jeremy Thorpe’s wedding reception at the Pannier Market in 1968 and the Beggar’s Opera written in 1728 by John Gay who was born in Barnstaple near the site of the market.
There is a whole programme of talks, workshops and events further diving into these histories and some ideas adjacent and within them from the end of October until the end of the year, alongside the exhibition.
